From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Along with the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William visited the government residence of Hillsborough Castle on Tuesday for its annual garden party.
One guest, Portrush resident Anne Hyndman, 62, was so eager to get a picture of the Prince that she attempted to catch him unaware in a selfie.
However, it didn’t quite go to plan.
“He saw me taking selfies,” Mrs Hyndman told the Press Association. “He said ‘I know what you are doing, you are taking selfies – I can see you out of the side of my eye.’”
If Mrs Hyndman thought their exchange over, she was wrong. The Duke spotted her again later on and began chatting about his surprise that selfies are popular among virtually every demographic.
“He came back up and I was taking photos again and he said ‘That’s the woman with the selfies – that’s a young one’s thing, now you’re at it.’"
It seems the exchange with the 33-year-old Prince only added to Mrs Hyndman's day out with her husband: “it was just the best day we ever had."
Royal selfies can be a rare find. Two Australian hockey players made headlines when the unsuspecting Queen ‘photobombed’ their selfie at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
