Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sir Paul McCartney is really lucky he’s a Beatle.

Because if he didn’t have such legendary standing in the music industry, the below video appeal would be neatly filed under ‘David Brent’ in a cabinet so awkward, it makes Ed Miliband look seamless.

To be fair to him, it starts off fairly well – with a simple, valid and important message directed at us, the viewers, without much embellishment.

“Hi there, Paul speaking,” he says. We can, evidently, see that he is speaking.

“Listen, all I need you to do is just log in on Pledge.meatfreemondays.com and pledge your support to the idea of Meat Free Mondays.”

Yep. We’ve got that too, thanks Paul.

“I need your help, please do it. We’ll send all these pledges to the politicians and then they’ll do something about it. So I need your help. Please. Just login. Pledge.meatfreemondays.com.

It’s then it descends into the utter depths of ‘Dad rap’ territory without much hope of reprisal.

Stella, we’re cringing on your behalf. Watch the video below for further reference.
