Oxford City’s managing director Colin Taylor has been found dead at the club’s stadium after his body was discovered by a member of the public on Sunday morning.
Mr Taylor was found at the National League South football club’s Marsh Lane stadium in Marston around 09:20 on Sunday, with Thames Valley Police confirming that his death was not thought to be suspicious.
A club statement from Oxford City read: “It is with the deepest sadness that the Directors of the Club have to announce the sudden passing of Managing Director, Colin Taylor.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Colin's family and friends at this time."
A police spokeswoman added: "At this stage there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
"The next of kin have been informed. The family have asked for privacy at this very difficult time."
Mr Taylor was described by members of social media as “the heart and soul of Oxford City FC” and “a true gentleman”, and chairman Brian Cox admitted he was “shocked” by the new of his passing, having been friends with Mr Taylor for more than 25 years.
Oxford City player Scott Davies said the news had left him in “absolute shock”.
"Only knew him for a short period of time but what a lovely bloke he was," he added.
Further tributes were paid to Mr Taylor on Twitter.
"Sad sad news this morning, RIP to Colin Taylor. A great man who was the heart and soul of Oxford City FC. You will be missed,” said Christian Lawrence.
Susan Gibbens added: "Such awful news, a true gentleman. Thoughts are with his family at this sad time. RIP Colin"
Allyson Richardson said: “Saddened to hear of the death of Colin Taylor. One of my best managers at @Jlr. His passion for @OxCityFC was always evident.”
Patrick Wehmeier, an Oxford United fan, wrote: “RIP Colin Taylor. I'm a United fan, but Oxford City is a great community club.”
