Richard Parker, Egyptologist, died 3 June, aged 87. Chairman of Department of Egyptology at Brown University 1949-72. Wrote or collaborated on 12 volumes in his field, including a three-volume series, Egyptian Astronomical Texts. Elected a corresponding fellow of the British Academy in 1956. A founding trustee of the American Research Center in Egypt and a member of the visiting committees of the Department of Middle Eastern Civilizations at Harvard University and the Department of Egyptian Art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
