Obituary: Cardinal Jacques Martin, died Rome 27 September, aged 84. Served under six popes. Worked in the French section of the Vatican's Secretariat of State, or foreign affairs office, under Pius XI; headed the section under Pius XII, John XXIII and Paul VI; and accompanied Paul VI, John Paul I and John Paul II on their various tours.
