For those who think that Nicki Minaj is not a purveyor of gender equality and women’s rights, think again.

The singer says that actually her video for single “Anaconda” was very empowering.

“With a video like 'Anaconda,' I'm a grown-ass f**king woman!” she told Rolling Stone.

“I stand for girls wanting to be sexy and dance, but also having a strong sense of themselves. If you got a big ol' butt? Shake it! Who cares? That doesn't mean you shouldn't be graduating from college.”

If you didn’t get that from her derriere-wiggling, twerking video, then in the eyes of Minaj you have missed the point.

She goes on to discuss the “sickening” death of Eric Garner who died after being put in an illegal chokehold by a police officer in Staten Island in July. The officer in question was not indicted.

“I’ve been reading so many people saying, ‘Why are we surprised?’” Minaj said. “That’s what’s really sad: that we should somehow be used to being treated like animals.

“It’s gotten to the point where people feel like there’s no accountability: if you are law enforcement and you do something to a black person, you can get away with it.”
