From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The ex-Spice Girl will present the second series of the show, in which contestants battle to shed the pounds on the dance floor.
Each week, the competitors are scored according to their weekly weight loss and their elaborate dance routines.
Mel B, a former contestant on Dancing with the Stars in the US, said: "After the birth of my second daughter, I wanted to find a fun and effective way to drop the pounds and get back in shape.
"I realised I didn't have to look far to find the answer. Whether I was dancing around the house with headphones on or on stage with the Spice Girls ... I learned firsthand that dancing was the key to shedding off the pounds and keeping them off."
The 34-year-old, who is rumoured to have been offered a role as a judge on next year's X Factor, also said she wants twins with husband Stephen Belafonte.
The couple have snapped-up a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom mansion in Los Angeles.
Mel B is already mother to Phoenix, 10, from her brief marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar, and Angel, two, the daughter of Eddie Murphy.
She told Hello! magazine: "We definitely want to have kids at some point in 2010 or the beginning of 2011, because this year's going to be pretty busy.
"Stephen has twins in his family and I would love to have twins. I think there's something nice about having two babies, and they're there for each other their whole entire life."
The full feature appears in Hello!, on sale now.
