From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

She's made a tonne of money from one hit song, has a new album coming out and a £990 Mulberry handbag named after her. Yet, the Blue Jeans chanteuse "wishes she was dead already".
The 27-year old told the Guardian her life is like "one f***ed movie" and simply doesn't want to live anymore, adding: "That's just how I feel. If it wasn't that way, then I wouldn't say it. I would be scared if I knew [death] was coming, but …"
Asked if there's something "glamorous" about dying young, Lana, who listed Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse as her music inspirations, responded: "I don't know. Ummm, yeah."
Apparently Lana also hates the fame, the paparazzi , the media and being targeted by critics. She desperately wants to stop doing "everything". What? Making music? Appearing on the cover of Vogue? Winning awards? Everything.
Adding to her chagrin, the singer also revealed her laptop was hacked and personal information, including photographs, financial details, health records and all of her songs, were leaked online: "All 211 of them. Just one more element of the unknown in my daily life".
Despite her hatred of life, Lana was happy enough to sing at Versailles for the pre-wedding party of rapper Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.
The solo artist will release the follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut album Born To Die, called Ultraviolence, on 17 June. Get a first listen to it below.
