The 77-year-old used the micro-messaging site Twitter to inform her followers withdetails of her condition. The final of three posts said: "It's very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better."
The Oscar-winner's last high-profile appearance was at last month's funeral of her long-time friend Michael Jackson.
