Especially when that name drop involves two high-profile celebrity "friends" and a not-so-secret revelation about their personal lives.
The former Daily Mirror editor turned slippery TV personality couldn’t wait to break the news we all knew regarding Charlize Theron and Sean Penn’s romantic lives in his column for Event magazine.
According to him, Penn was falling over himself to praise his new girlfriend Theron when he spoke to Morgan at the Help Haiti Home Gala in Beverly Hills recently.
Morgan wrote: "At 2 a.m., Sean came over and bear-hugged me. 'Congrats on a great night,' I said.
"'And congrats on Charlize too.' He laughed, 'She's a keeper, that's for sure... Well, I'll do my best to keep her anyway!'"
The South African actress also gushed about Penn, Morgan revealed.
"I'm so glad you two have got together. Sean's a great guy," he apparently told Theron. She apparently replied: “I know.”
Gripping stuff, we're sure you'll agree.
Sadly, it wasn’t quite the scoop the unctuous Brit probably thought he’d scored, as the entire entertainment world were already aware.
Rumours – and photographs – of the power couple first surfaced back at the start of December 2013.
The real love-in, it seems, is between Morgan and Penn.
Writing in a column for the Daily Mail last month, Morgan described the "firebrand" actor he had befriended as a "whirlwind of passion and intensity" and "great fun, too".
"The text message was intriguing," Morgan wrote by way of confirming that they do, indeed, have each other’s mobile numbers. "'Want to come to a small private house party and meet the Haiti Prime Minister?’ asked Sean Penn.
“‘Love to,’ I replied.”
He went on to describe the Haitian Prime Minister as an "impressive man", but not as impressive as Morgan’s new man, Penn.
"After he spoke powerfully and eloquently about what more needs to be done, I asked him, ‘How much time have you spent in Haiti?’
"‘Two of the last four years.’
"I can’t think of a single celebrity who has ever devoted more of their physical time to a cause like that."
