From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael Phelps, the 31-year-old Olympic swimming champion, secretly married his longtime girlfriend Nicole Johnson back in June, The Arizona Republic reports. Johnson gave birth to their son, Boomer, a little more than a month before the ceremony.

The newspaper published a copy of the couple’s marriage license on Thursday showing that they were married in Paradise Valley, Arizona, where Phelps purchased $2.5 million home last year. Both Phelps and Johnson have remained tight-lipped about the marriage with the exception of Johnson posting an image on Instagram on the date of the wedding with the caption, "Such a memorable night with my lil fambam."

Phelps and Johnson met back in 2007 in Los Angeles. The couple got engaged in February and became parents in May. Over the summer, Johnson spoke about the engagement.

“We have a date. It’ll be small and intimate for the wedding, and then we’re throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States,” she told Access Hollywood in August, " We’re kind of getting things rolling. I’ve been planning as we’ve been leading up to this. I think I have the wedding in order and now it’s on to the party for the fun!”
