From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. From Naomi Campbells’ infamous 1993 toppling in Vivienne Westwood killer heels to Madonna’s cape fail at the Brits last year, falling on stage happens to the most high-profile and renowned performers.
Which Meghan Trainor should take comfort from, given her spectacular fall on US television on Thursday evening.
Trainor was performing her new single “Me Too” on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. After completing the song and dance routine with no problems, it was a final turn and a misplaced footing that saw Trainor come crashing to the ground along with her microphone stand, letting out a couple of squeals as she did so.
In an attempt to make his guest feel better, good old Fallon lay down on the floor with her for a while until she regained composure.
While videos, gifs and, probably soon, memes will be doing the rounds of the internet, Trainor posted a defiant message on Instagram.
“Might have fell down… but I KILLED that sh*t,” she wrote.
