From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Celebrities will often steadfastly avoid lines of questioning that veer anywhere close to their personal life, yet some of the most high-profile will inexplicably sit opposite Howard Stern and confess their private secrets live on air.
Like many before her, Gaga submitted herself to a grilling by the shock jock, who quickly steered questioning towards her personal life and recent split from her fiancee, the actor Taylor Kinney, which she has been at pains to demonstrate is amicable.
The couple who once famously “made love on a canvas for peace” - and then shared their post-coital image on the cover of V Magazine - announced their split in July after five years together.
“I hate to sound like a hippie but I kind of am one and so is he. We love each other, that's it.
"To be fair, I think that Taylor’s pretty f**king cool that over the years [in that] no matter what creative transformation that I’ve gone through, he’s always been very supportive of that and loving. There’s a lot on this record inspired by our relationship, and he’s super supportive of me expressing myself artistically.”
But if he were to meet someone else?
“I’m not going to throw a f**king party.”
