From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Having spent the best part of a year saying that speculation she'd had her lips plumped were "insulting", Kylie Jenner has admitted that she has had surgical assistance.

Admitting on Keeping Up With The Kardashians that she'd had fillers injected into her mouth, the 17 year old spoke of the pressure of the media speculation.

Jenner has been repeatedly asked about her mouth, and prior to her confession said she "wasn't ready" to discuss it.

Her half-sister Khloe said: "Kylie decided to plump her lips and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

"I think if you've done something though, it is right to cop up to it. If you avoid the question, you're gonna look like a liar."

She had previously claimed that her distinctive look was down to carefully applied lip liner.

Jenner's lips launched a thousand trips to A&E for teenagers copying her plump pout. An internet craze started in which people put their lips into a shot glass and sucked in order to create a swollen, painful mouth resembling Jenner's.

However, the "Kylie Jenner challenge" turned out to be dangerous, with some people suffering bruised lips and long-lasting damage.
