From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

As one of Twitter’s most famous members, with a following of 42.5 million, it's expected Kim Kardashian-West should be a skilled tweeter.

However, she’s inadvertently made a man famous in his home country Turkey for repeatedly tagging him in her photos, instead of her friend the esteemed fashion photographer Mert Alas.

On several occasions, Kardashian-West has instead tagged another Mert Alas, which seems a reasonable mistake given that his Twitter handle is @mertalas.

The real Alas only seems to have an active social media presence on Instagram.

Kardashian-West, whose fame has arguably been helped by the social media empire she has built ever since first appearing on Keeping up with the Kardashians nine years ago, continued targeting the wrong person even after the 17-year-old replied.

According to Buzzfeed, Mert has garnered attention in Turkey due to the mishap and told Turkish publication Milliyet he’s just happy the mix-up gained him more followers.

For Kardashain-West, she can rest easy that it’s not just her who has confused the two accounts. Fergie, Miley Cyrus and Irina Shayk all appear to have made the same mistake:

Alas, better known as part of the collaborative fashion photographer duo Mert and Marcus, has shot Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Gigi Hadid to name a few in addition to Kardashian-West.
