From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Where was Kim Kardashian when Jennifer Lawrence needed her earlier this week?

The reality television star has offered some advice on how the 100 plus celebrities (including herself) could have prevented hackers from obtaining and circulating naked pictures, allegedly enabled after an iCloud leak.

"I think people in general just have to be cautious," she said with all the insight of a roll of sellotape.

"I think it's a big wake up call for people to make sure they have every privacy setting."

"It seems like there's a lot of people that love to spend their time hacking people's information.

"And that's just a scary thing."

Kardashian doesn’t have an iCloud account because she doesn’t “really understand it”.

"I don't even know where this cloud is or where all this information is that can be hacked into,“ she told the BBC.

"I deleted my iCloud account ages ago because I didn't really understand it and I was aware that it was so easily accessible."

Despite her cautious measures, Kardashian was one of the numerous high-profile names to become embroiled in the large-scale hacking, with other victims including Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst, Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice, Cara Delevingne and Rihanna, were published on website 4Chan on Sunday 31 August by a hacker who is currently being investigated by the FBI.

The anonymous hacker also admitted that he or she is unhappy with the amount of money obtained from circulating the stolen photographs.

"This is a flagrant violation of privacy," said a spokesperson for Lawrence. "The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence."

Kardashian has been on the receiving end of a privacy breach before, after a sex tape featuring her then boyfriend R&B singer Ray J was leaked online in 2003.
