From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. On Tuesday, the reality television star shut down speculation about her pregnancy and incessant comments about her body by sharing a nude picture of herself with her 42 million followers on Instagram.
Kardashian, who recently gave a talk on the objectification of women in the media, has been subject to spurious tabloid reports suggesting her pregnancy was “fake” and questioning whether she had enlisted a surrogate to carry her child. These reports prompted comments evaluating her size and shape, with many suggesting her bump was too small.
Now six months pregnant with her second child, she responded with an empowering post celebrating her body by emulating a number of naked pregnancy photo shoots made famous by Demi Moore and other figures.
She wrote: “First they say I'm too skinny so I have to be faking it...Now they say I'm too big so I have to be faking it...SMH! Some days I'm photographed before I eat and look smaller, some days I've just eaten and I look bigger.
“It's all a part of the process. I think you all know me well enough to know I would document the process if I got a surrogate.”
The 34-year-old makes a salient point considering she has lived most of her adult life in front of the camera, amassing her vast fortune by sharing intimate information with millions of people across the world.
Her post continued: “Everyone's body is different, every pregnancy is very different! I've learned to love my body at every stage! I'm going to get even bigger and that's beautiful too! I'm blessed to even be pregnant and even luckier to not have preeclampsia as far as I know, so I don't have the swelling issue this time!
“They also say your body carries a boy different than a girl! Whatever the case may be I'm grateful to God for this miracle and no matter what rumours or comments you throw my way this time they truly don't affect me!”
