From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Karl Pilkington has grown out of his role as Ricky Gervais’ hapless sidekick, and could be heading into the I’m A Celebrity Jungle.

The comic, writer and broadcaster has since carved out his own niche on shows like An Idiot Abroad and The Moaning Of Life, which sees Pilkington thrust into new situations, unfamiliar territory and challenging new customs to see how he’d cope.

As a result, his inclusion on the ITV show famed for forcing famous people to eat unusual parts of animals might make for some pretty good TV.

Pilkington is well-known for his odd musings on life, and was regularly lambasted by Gervais and Stephen Merchant for coming out with odd comments.

From violence against animals to the underwhelming wonders of the world, here are some of Karl Pilkington’s best quotes:

On Nature:

“[Jellyfish] are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful.”

On Improvisation:

“I find that if you just talk, your mouth comes up with stuff.”

On Visiting Egypt:

“I really can't believe what a state the Pyramids are in. I thought they had flat rendered sides, but when you get up close, you see how they are just giant boulders balanced on top of each other, like a massive game of Jenga that has got out of hand.”

On Evolution:

“There is no need for ants to have the ability to fly”

On Living To The Extreme:

“I don't really like surprises. Not big ones anyway. Just having a pack of Revels holds enough of a surprise for me.”

On Science

If you sit in a bath of pineapple chunks, it can kill you. That's well documented.

On The Future Of Mankind:

Neil Armstrong, that spaceman, he went to the moon but he ain’t been back. It can’t have been that good.
