From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The rapper approached James Franco and Seth Rogen to do a live performance of their spoof of his music video, Bound 2, on the night before his wedding to Kim Kardashian.
Franco said that although he was initially unsure of how the parody would be received by West, he actually finds it as entertaining as the rest of us.
The video – which was first released on Facebook in November - sees Franco take on the role of West, while Rogen is Kardashian – complete with obligatory sultry stares and shirtless motorbike writhing.
“We did get feedback,” said Franco on US talk show The View. “Kim loved the video and we didn't hear back from Kanye - we kind of felt like he's not bashing us, but he probably hates it and he's just not going to say anything.
“But then two weeks ago, we got a call from Kanye. Seth and I were on the phone. We thought he was just going to let us have it. But he loved it. And I'm pretty sure I can say it now because I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen — he wanted us to perform it live the night before his wedding at Versailles.”
Kardashian and West are rumoured to be getting married at a hopefully extravagant and ostentatious ceremony at Versailles next month – although this hasn’t been confirmed by either party. Has Franco inadvertently given the venue game away?
Either way, tragically, it sounds as if the video will not be screened at the nuptials after all.
“I think it would be awesome for about 10 seconds,” added Franco. “But then there would be Seth with his shirt off in front all the Kardashians!”
