From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Kanye West and Jay Z live an ostentatious lifestyle, but the depths to which the two rappers demand perfection have apparently reached bizarre new levels after their leaked rider was allegedly leaked to TMZ.

The list should be taken with a pinch of salt, but includes a break-down of hotel room provisions. Jay Z, for example, specifically requests the heating is set at 71 degrees, and asks that hotel staff provide 3 Mayan tuberose-scented candles, retailing for $80 (£50) each.

He also allegedly insists there is no vacuuming near his room and staff don’t ask for tickets to concerts if they wish to “avoid embarrassment”.

Elsewhere, West seems to insist on cylindrical vases in his room, and must have a Genelecs 1031a speaker, with the request noting that the model was discontinued a decade ago.

In terms of alcohol, West asks for 13 bottles, including Hennessy branded cognac, coming to a grand total of $3,200 (£2,070).

Jay Z requests Ace of Spades champagne, but points out that he cannot be charged for it, as he owns the company.

TMZ has not sid anything regarding where they obtained the list from.

The two could do with taking a leaf from The Rolling Stones’ book. The ageing rock and roll group have eased off the extravagant requests - but now request instructions on how to operate any electronic equipment in their rooms.
