From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Kanye West is not one for playing down his influence and talent. After proclaiming himself the “greatest living rock star on the planet” on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury and comparing himself to Apple genius Steve Jobs, West is now attempting to influence an iconic magazine into using an image of him for their cover.

On Wednesday evening, West posted a photo which looked suspiciously like a cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

The picture, a rare one of West with a massive grin, was apparently shot by fellow rapper Tyler the Creator. Underneath the picture was a the headline: “Does He Like Mustard?” with no further clarification given.

However, Rolling Stone quickly stepped in to clarify it’s not actually a cover of their magazine but they, like the rest of us, are interested in his choice of mustard.

Undeterred, West told his 18 million Twitter followers the image will probably end up being a cover before asking them to vote on whether it should be. At present, more than 50,000 have voted.

West might want to steer clear of trolling the magazine given that the furore over his unfortunate Twitter feud with Wiz Khalifa has only just settled down.

Naturally, Kim Kardashian West also piped up, professing it was one of her “fave” pictures of her husband.

Meanwhile, Tyler the Creator asked his followers the burning question on everybody’s lips.

West later took aim at Billboard magazine who ran a headline about the “fake” cover, telling them he’d prefer it if they used the term “unauthorised” instead.
