At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Ashley Greene found her sexual forays unwittingly propelled into the public domain after her ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas decided to tell the world about losing his virginity to her. Through no choice of Greene’s own, the public learned of how Jonas had scrambled for condoms in his house mates drawer.

Speaking on a Reddit AMA last Wednesday, the singer, who first rose to fame as a member of the Jonas Brothers alongside brothers Nick and Kevin, was asked about when he lost his virginity. Jonas did not hold back and explained it was to a woman named Ashley and encouraged fans to google her to decipher who she was, before descending into yet further detail about the night’s events.

Greene, who plays the role of Alice Cullen in Twilight, responded with a succinct and pithily worded Instagram post which read: “Class is timeless”.

Jonas has now explained why he decided to tell the world about this pretty personal moment, explaining that he had simply been trying to tell his “stories” and he percieves himself as an "honest guy".

“I don't know. I think life's too short, you know?” the 27-year-old singer told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean ultimately, I think of myself as an honest guy. There are just those moments in life where you have to be true to yourself and true to the world.”

“I'm not out to hurt anybody, but I think, ultimately, I'm just telling my stories and what I can say from my heart”.

Jonas' announcement about his sex life could not have been done on a more public forum: Reddit has 542 million monthly visitors and is the 25th most visited website in the world.

Jonas dated Greene for a year when Jonas was 20 and they split up in 2011.

“It’s quite the great story because I didn’t have any condoms so I went to our drummer," Jonas said while recounting the tale on Reddit. "Jack’s room, who was my roommate at the time and I demolished his room looking for them. Found them underneath his underwear drawer. When he came home, he thought somebody broke into his room because his whole room was demolished because I was in dire need. Needed to happen then and now. Safety first, kids".

Jonas and his brothers Nick and Kevin were known for being chaste as teenagers and the siblings all donned purity rings. However the purity-ring trio did not last forever, with Joe and Nick later ditching their rings and instead singing and speaking publically about sex.
