From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s been a busy year for Jeremy Clarkson, whose meteoric rise and fall after the infamous BBC ‘fracas’ was followed by his signing with Amazon Prime for a new motoring show with a budget estimated to be worth £160 million.

Caitlyn Jenner topped search lists, surpassing even her step-daughter Kim Kardashian, when she revealed her transition from male to female on the cover of Vanity Fair and saw the world gather in support behind her.

The year 2015 proved to be a tumultuous one for One Direction, who also made it Yahoo’s top 10 most searched list when they lost a member (in a departure that riled some) and announced their hiatus a few months later.

A few more unlikely names have also made it into the top 10 terms searched by users in 2015.

Meanwhile, the top 10 obsessions included the Kardashians, Cecil the lion and (how could we ever forget) pig-gate.
