From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The singer was the latest star to join Corden’s weekly sing-along in an episode which culminated with Cordon texting DiCaprio: “I'm kind of feeling like I need to cut loose. Any suggestions, let me know. J. Lo (you know, from the block).”
An unassuming DiCaprio immediately fired back with the now infamous response: “You mean tonight, boo boo? Club wise?”
Lopez said she broke the news that her text was a prank quickly after, which the Oscar-winning actor apparently took well.
“I did have to explain it to him,” she told reporters gathered after filming American Idol. “He was a great sport about it ... I was like, 'So hey, this is what had happened! I was with James Corden.
”He's great. He's a friend and it was nice. He was totally like, 'Do whatever you want, I don't care.' I don't know if he'd say that today!“ She also insisted they did not go for a night out together. “I was home cooking with my kids and my boyfriend.”
