From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It was all very jovial and Watson seemed to take the face-palm with good humour, but still… Why? The two were posing for pictures at Christian Dior’s latest couture show in Paris, when Lawrence presumably got bored and gave photographers something much more entertaining to look at.
Watson, who is probably not used to having hands batted in her face, handled the situation deftly – and carried on having her picture taken like a good Hollywood starlet.
The two went onto sit alongside Dior CEO Sidney Toledano on the show front row, making for more conventional photo opportunities that the brand was possibly more satisfied with. Then Lawrence went backstage and was pictured laughing with the brand's sombre creative director, Raf Simons.
Other high-profile names to have attended the event in Paris included Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron and boyfriend Sean Penn.
In March, someone with too much time on their hands merged the faces of Watson and Lawrence in Photoshop to create an 'internet goddess'.
