From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

But we wouldn’t expect anything less from Gwyneth Paltrow, whose website is no doubt experiencing another server-crippling surge in demand thanks to a note she left on the end of a chicken recipe.
Following up from her ‘Conscious Uncoupling’ message, which announced her separation from husband Chris Martin, she posted ‘One Bird, Three Meals’.
“Our moms were raised by depression-era ladies who used a single tea bag for two cups of tea and never met a leftover they didn’t eat,” it read.
“This issue of three delicious chicken recipes is in honor of our grandmothers, who taught us the good old-fashioned art of not wasting a scrap.”
So far, so GOOP-like. But it’s the following that has sent viewing figures soaring.
”P.S. CM and I in deep gratitude for the support of so many,“ she added.
The miniscule message follows a lengthier statement from Chris Martin’s dad earlier, who told the Daily Mirror earlier that although the news about the pair’s impending divorce was ”sad and upsetting”, they were “still great mates”.
“It is sad because there are our two grandchildren. But it is all very amicable between them.”
“I don't know anything about that,” he said, in response to cheating allegations.
He did, however, know a little about ‘conscious uncoupling’.
“It's all in the statement - the expression that was used - conscious...” He added: “I am very proud of what they have achieved in their lives.”
