From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kardashian, who is four months pregnant, was at Worthy Farm to watch her husband Kanye West’s controversial headline set at the Pyramid stage.
While many were excited that she would be in attendance, one audience member decided to transport a large flag which appears to show the Keeping up with the Kardashians star performing oral sex.
A sex tape featuring both her and her former partner Ray-J was leaked without her consent in 2007 and is partly responsible for her meteoric rise to fame.
The flag also had the words, “Get Down, Girl, Get Head Get Down,” emblazoned across it.
A picture of the “repugnant” flag was shared by one festival-goer on Twitter, who captioned it with: “Someone printed kim k giving ray j h**d on a flag and waved it about as Kanye performed at Glastonbury ahahahaha.”
Other pictures of the flag attracted heavy criticism online.
Kardashian did not acknowledge the presence of the flag in a series of tweets after the event.
Why an audience member would be compelled to spend actual time and money trying to shame Kardashian with a picture from the sex tape remains unknown. Ironically, the incident came ahead of a talk she is due to give on the objectification of women in media in Oakland, California.
West’s performance was also interrupted by stage invader Lee Nelson, who claimed he did it to get revenge for Taylor Swift.
