From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Celebrity circles may be congested with individuals berating Donald Trump but it is much less common for the rich and famous to sing the Republican candidate’s praises. Hillary Clinton is a rather more in vogue contender.

However, George Foreman bucks the trend. The boxing legend, who is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medalist, has come out in support of Mr Trump.

Foreman, who is known better for his “lean mean fat reducing grilling machine” aka the George Foreman Grill among non-boxing aficionados, said Mr Trump had not just been a friend to himself but to boxing as a whole.

The boxer-cum-entrepreneur said if Mr Trump were to become President next week (yes, this time next week we will have a new President), he would have a lot of fun for the next four years.

Foreman also said he relished in exercising his democratic right to vote and supporting his “guy”.

“Donald Trump has been a friend not only to me but boxing itself,” Foreman told The Telegraph.

“Somewhere deep down you pull for him to win. It would be good for politics to have some newcomer on the scene. I would have fun for the next four years.”

“I’ve voted for lots of guys. Some lose, some win. But I’d have fun with Donald Trump being president.”

“I remember my mum and my aunt were worried about Kennedy going against Nixon. They were so afraid. Kennedy got in but nothing happened one way or another. Every four years we all become political. It’s a joy to vote. I love getting out there and voting and supporting your guy.”

Foreman also discussed his many talents, saying that his next mission was to start up a shoe business.

“Life is fun. I’m a preacher, I’m an evangelist, and I moonlight as a grill salesperson,” he said - a nod to the 100 million units of the infamous George Foreman Grill which have sold worldwide.

“My next quest is to sell ‘The George Foreman Shoe’ that will make folks my age get up and walk. No good having money in the bank and a nice home and car if you don’t walk. I’m going to be selling walking now: get up and walk. I’m always selling something. I learnt to sell to ensure I’d never starve.”
