From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The actor and political activist expressed scepticism about the idea Trump would become president and said the hype would eventually subside.
“This is an election cycle and we tend to go through some craziness,” he told the Telegraph.
“The idea that this xenophobic, fascist theory that we are going to ban Muslims from our country or we are going to kick 12 million Mexicans back down to the border and build a wall they are going to pay for - none of that is ever going to happen”.
Instead, Clooney said the hysteria surrounding the billionaire property mogul will die down.
“This country isn't going to do that. All this chatter is going to be going around for another two or three months but eventually all the insanity will stop and we will start to talk about issues that really matter.”
Trump remains the Republican favourite and is leading in the latest polls in eight of the 11 states that will vote on Super Tuesday - the round of primaries that will give a strong indication as to who will emerge as the most likely Republican candidate for November's election.
But Clooney, who is an ardent Democrat and human rights advocate, remains confident that Trump will not be triumphant.
“I feel very confident that, in the end, the issues will matter,” he said.
This is not the first time the Kentucky-born actor has been outspoken about Trump – in September last year he said Trump’s description of Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and “criminals” was “idiotic”.
Speaking at the Toronto Film Festival press conference Clooney said: “Clearly, what he said is idiotic, of course it’s idiotic.”
“Anybody who says as intolerant words as those should be laughed at and that’s pretty much what history will do”.
