From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In an interview at the Hollywood premier of Game of Thrones, the two showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, revealed that the American president had been allowed a sneak peek at the series.
Interviewer Veronica Belmont asked the pair whether they’d had any particular stand-out highlights. “Have you had any major aha moments — like ‘Oh my god we totally made it’ — now that you’ve come into season six and the show is just so incredibly big and popular?”
To which Weiss replied, “I think, for both of us, finding out the President wanted advanced copies of the episodes was an 'aha' moment. That was a very strange moment.”
“Yes,” Weiss added. “He’s the leader of the free world.”
“When the commander-in-chief says 'I want to see advanced episodes,' what are you gonna do?” Benioff chipped in.
This is by no means the first time there has been talk of Obama’s fixation with Game of Thrones. In a recent interview with Vulture, Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth, referred to the Democrat’s special access.
“Did you know he gets advance copies? POTUS. He gets DVD copies before we do. And we're in it!” the actor exclaimed.
