Donald Trump will deport Syrian refugees if he becomes President because those fleeing war and persecution "could be Isis".
The outspoken business magnate and Republican frontrunner suggested refugees could be members of the terror group in a “tactical ploy” during a rambling, hour long speech at a rally in Keene, in New Hampshire.
The conflict in Syria has displaced almost eight million people internally and four million people internationally, leaving Europe facing the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War. The US has taken in 1,500 refugees so far.
President Obama initially responded to the escalating humanitarian disaster by committing to resettle at least 10,000 Syrian refugees with the next year.
In a characteristically lively address, Trump laid out his own polar opposite approach, criticising the recent announcement from John Kerry that the US would accept 100,000 refugees from around the world a year by 2017.
He told the audience: “The other day I heard 200,000 - we’re gonna take in 200,000 Syrians. Or wherever they come from, we have no idea.
“I’ll tell you right now, and I’m putting everyone on notice, I’m putting the people on notice that are coming here from Syria as part of this mass migration, that if I win, if I win, they're going back. I’m telling you, they’re going back.
“They could be Isis, I don't know. This could be one of the great tactical ploys of all time. A 200,000-man army, maybe. That could be possible.”
