Demi Moore has said she is in "absolute shock" after a 21-year-old man was found dead in her swimming pool.

Edenilson Valle is believed to have drowned on Sunday morning during a party held by an assistant at the actress' home.

She was away from the house in Los Angeles at the time of the accident and Mr Valle was believed to be a friend of one of her assistants.

Moore, 52, described his death as an “unthinkable tragedy” in a statement released by her publicist.

“I was out of the country travelling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news,” the 52-year-old said.

“My heart goes out to this young man's family and friends.”

Mr Valle had been at a party hosted by an assistant employed by Moore, who is known for her starring role alongside Patrick Swayze in Ghost.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said he had gone missing for 10 or 15 minutes before his friends found him floating in the deep end of the pool.

Mr Valle's family and friends told police he did not know how to swim and initial investigations suggested the death was accidental.

Paramedics called to the house attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.30am local time (1.30pm BST).
