Diego Lucero, journalist, died Buenos Aires 4 June, aged 93. The only journalist known to have covered all 15 football World Cup finals, from the first in his native Uruguay in 1930, to last year's finals in the United States.

J. Presper Eckert, computer scientist, died Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania 3 June, aged 76. Co- inventor with John W. Mauchly of the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, the first electronic digital computer.

Ruth Rolland, campaigner and politician, died Paris 5 June. Minister for Health and Social Affairs of the Central African Republic 1993-95. Spent the previous six years in prison for her rights campaigns.
