BUCKINGHAM PALACE

3 August: Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Blair Stewart-Wilson was received by The Queen upon his retirement as Deputy Master of the Household and Equerry.

His Excellency Mr Ali Lakhdari and Mrs Lakhdari were received in farewell audience by Her Majesty and took leave upon His Excellency relinquishing his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria to the Court of St James's.

General Sir John Wilsey was received by The Queen upon his appointment as Aide-de-Camp General to Her Majesty.

The Queen, Air Commodore-in-Chief, received Group Captain Michael Tinley upon relinquishing his appointment as Inspector of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and Group Captain Richard Mighall upon assuming the appointment.

Air Commodore Sir Hector Monro MP, Honorary Inspector General, was present.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel, this morning inspected Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards, on the occasion of their Formation Parade, at Wellington Barracks, London SW1.

Captain Jonathan Walker was in attendance.

3 August: The Princess Royal this afternoon visited Huddersfield and was received by Colonel Alan Roberts (Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire).

Her Royal Highness, Patron, National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, opened Huddersfield Citizens Advice Bureau, 6-8 St Peter's Street.

The Princess Royal, Patron, National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, afterwards visited the Sikh Leisure Centre, Prospect Street.

Her Royal Highness, President of the Patrons, Crime Concern, later visited the Kirklees Crime Reduction Programme and the Kirklees SPLASH Summer Activities at Fartown High School and at Heritage Farm, Leeds Road.

Lady Carew-Pole was in attendance.

Gun salutes

A 41-gun royal salute in honour of the Queen Mother's birthday will be fired by The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, Hyde Park, 12pm; a 62-gun royal salute will be fired by The Honourable Artillery Company, Tower of London, 1pm.

The Queen's Gallery

The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace opens between 10am and 5pm, and last admission is at 4.30pm. The Royal Mews opens between 12pm and 4pm, and last admission is at 3.30pm.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion The King's Regiment mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Grenadier Guards.

Windsor Castle

The Precincts and State Apartments at Windsor Castle open between 10am and 6pm.

Bands playing in the Royal Parks

St James's Park, Eltham Concert Band, 12.30pm-2pm, 5.30pm-7pm; Regent's Park (Queen Mary's Rose Garden), Ashley Thomas, Brass Quintet, 12.30pm-2pm.
