BUCKINGHAM PALACE

14 July: The Queen, Sovereign of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, this morning attended the Service of the Order in St Paul's Cathedral.

Having been received on arrival at the steps of St Paul's Cathedral by Sir Brian Jenkins (the Right Hon the Lord Mayor), Her Majesty was received at the West Door by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's with the Bishop of London. The Duke of Kent (Grand Master of the Order) and The Duchess of Kent were present.

The following Officers of the Order were on duty: the Bishop of Coventry (Prelate), the Lord Carrington KG (Chancellor), Sir David Gillmore (Secretary), Sir John Graham Bt (Registrar), Sir Oliver Wright (King of Arms), Sir John Moreton (Gentleman Usher of the Blue Rod), the Dean of St Paul's (Dean) and Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Mather (Deputy Secretary).

The Duchess of Grafton, Sir Kenneth Scott, Lieutenant-Colonel Blair Stewart-Wilson and Mr James Bowes-Lyon (Page of Honour) were in attendance.

Her Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen- at-arms and The Queen's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty.

Mr Sydney Chapman MP (Vice- Chamberlain of the Household) had an audience of The Queen and presented an address from the House of Commons to which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to make reply.

The Right Hon John Major MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The Queen this evening.

The Hon Mary Morrison has succeeded Mrs John Dugdale as Lady- in-Waiting to the Queen.

14 July: The Princess Royal, President, National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs, this morning attended the Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate and was received by Sir Marcus Worsley Bt (Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for North Yorkshire).

Her Royal Highness, President, Animal Health Trust, afterwards attended a Luncheon at Whixley Hall, Whixley.

The Hon Mrs Legge-Bourke was in attendance.

CLARENCE HOUSE

14 July: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother was present this afternoon at a performance of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court.

The Lady Margaret Colville, Major Sir Ralph Anstruther Bt and Captain the Hon Edward Dawson- Damer were in attendance.

KENSINGTON PALACE

14 July: The Princess of Wales, President, Barnardo's, attended a Conference to promote awareness of HIV/Aids issues amongst young people at a Conference at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, Lancaster Terrace, London W2.

Mr Patrick Jephson was in attendance.

14 July: The Duchess of Gloucester today received the Captain of HMS Gloucester (Commander Duncan Fergusson RN).

YORK HOUSE

14 July: The Duke of Kent, Grand Master, accompanied by The Duchess of Kent, this morning attended the Annual Service for the most distinguished Order of St Michael and St George at St Paul's Cathedral.

Mrs Fiona Henderson, Commander Roger Walker, RN and Captain the Honourable Tom Coke were in attendance.

The Duke of Kent this evening took the Salute at the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court, London SW5.

Captain the Honourable Tom Coke was in attendance.

THATCHED HOUSE LODGE

14 July: Princess Alexandra, Patron of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, this evening attended a Gala Performance of Anything Goes at the MacOwan Theatre, Logan Place, London W8.

Mrs Peter Afia was in attendance.

ROYAL ENGAGEMENTS

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh give a Garden Party. The Prince of Wales visits the National Clinical Positron Emission Tomography Centre at St Thomas's Hospital, London SE1. The Princess Royal, Master, Worshipful Company of Loriners, attends a Court Meeting and Luncheon at Innholders Hall, London EC4; and later, as Patron, attends the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court, London SW5. Princess Margaret also attends the Royal Tournament. The Duke of Kent, Chairman of the United Kingdom Trustees, joins a Duke of Edinburgh's Commonwealth Study Tour in Kent. Princess Alexandra attends a Reception held by BEN (Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund) at Forbes House, London SW1.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts The Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards mounts The Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Grenadier Guards.

Bands playing in the Royal Parks

St James's Park, Eltham Concert Band, 12.30pm- 2pm, 5.30pm-7pm.
