21 October: Mr Michael Hardie was received in audience by The Prince of Wales and The Prince Edward, Counsellors of State acting on behalf of The Queen, upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Gambia.
Mrs Hardie was also received by Their Royal Highnesses.
Mr Edward Clay was received in audience by The Prince of Wales and The Prince Edward, Counsellors of State acting on behalf of The Queen, upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Uganda.
Mrs Clay was also received by Their Royal Highnesses.
Mr Richard Lavers was received in audience by The Prince of Wales and The Prince Edward, Counsellors of State acting on behalf of The Queen, and kissed hands upon his appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador at Quito.

21 October: The Prince Edward this evening attended a Royal Gala Performance of Phantom of the Opera in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care at the Opera House, Manchester, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Greater Manchester (Colonel John Timmins).

21 October: The Princess Royal, Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Logistics Corps, today visited 3 and 4 Regiments, Dalton Barracks, Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Her Royal Highness, President, Animal Health Trust, accompanied by Commander Timothy Laurence RN, this evening attended a Royal Film Premiere of Homeward Bound, the Incredible Journey at the Odeon Leicester Square, London WC2.
ST JAMES'S PALACE
21 October: The Prince of Wales, President, King Edward's Hospital Fund for London, this afternoon gave a Luncheon at St James's Palace.
His Royal Highness, President, The Prince's Trust, afterwards visited the trust's headquarters, 8 Bedford Row, London WC1, to celebrate Prince's Trust Week.
Mr Matthew Butler was in attendance.
The Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, later received Lieutenant-Colonel Ian Robertson upon relinquishing his appointment as the Land Steward for the Isles of Scilly.
His Royal Highness, Duke of Cornwall, subsequently received Sir Jeffrey Bowman upon relinquishing his appointment as Duchy Auditor and Mr Ian Brindle upon assuming the appointment.
The Prince of Wales this evening attended a Reception at St James's Palace.
His Royal Highness, Duke of Cornwall, was represented by Mr John James at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Mr Bernard Briant which was held in the Church of St Lawrence Jewry next Guildhall, London EC2, this morning.
KENSINGTON PALACE
21 October: The Princess of Wales, President, Royal Academy of Music, this evening attended a Concert at the Academy, Marylebone Road, London NW1.
Mrs Max Pike and Captain Edward Musto RM were in attendance.
21 October: The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, today visited Harefield Hospital, Harefield, Middlesex.
Lady Aird and Major the Lord Napier and Ettrick were in attendance.
The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, was present this evening at a performance by Opera Interludes, given at Lambeth Palace in aid of the Friends of the Elderly and Gentlefolk's Help of which Her Royal Highness is President.
The Countess Alexander of Tunis was in attendance.
21 October: The Duke of Gloucester today visited Northamptonshire and was received on arrival by Captain John Macdonald-Buchanan (Vice Lord- Lieutenant of Northamptonshire).
In the morning His Royal Highness launched the Rockingham Forest Trust, Rockingham Castle, Corby.
In the afternoon The Duke of Gloucester opened the new glucose refinery of ABR Foods Limited, Sallow Road, Weldon Industrial Estate, Corby.
Afterwards His Royal Highness, Grand Prior, Order of St John opened the new St John Ambulance County Headquarters and Training Centre, Billington Road, Northampton.
Major Nicholas Barne was in attendance.
The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, Notting Hill Housing Trust, was present this evening at a Reception to mark the Trust's 30th Anniversary at Kensington Palace State Apartments, London W8.
