5 March: The Duke of Edinburgh, on behalf of The Queen, today visited Manchester and was received at Piccadilly Station by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Greater Manchester (Colonel John Timmins) and the Lord Mayor of Manchester (Councillor William Egerton).
His Royal Highness this morning visited St Ambrose Gardens housing development, Salford, and was received by the Mayor of Salford (Councillor Kenneth Murray) and Sir Richard O'Brien (Vice-Chairman, Church Urban Fund).
Having toured the development, escorted by the Reverend Canon Gerald Wheale (Chief Executive, Mosscare Housing Association), The Duke of Edinburgh officially opened the new development and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
His Royal Highness subsequently visited St Ambrose Church, was received by the Vicar (the Reverend Andy Salmon), was shown an Exhibition of work of the Church Urban Fund and activities in the parish and attended a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the opening.
The Duke of Edinburgh afterwards visited the National Children's Home Irlam Family Centre, Salford, and was received by the Chairman, National Children's Homes (Sir Michael Checkland).
His Royal Highness toured the building, escorted by Mr Gerald Urey (North West Regional Director), and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
This afternoon The Duke of Edinburgh opened Terminal 2, Manchester Airport, and was received by the Chairman, Manchester Airport (Councillor John Flanagan).
After touring the building, escorted by the Chief Executive (Mr Gilbert Thompson), His Royal Highness unveiled a commemorative window and attended a Luncheon.
Sir Kenneth Scott and Lieutenant Colonel Blair Stewart-Wilson were in attendance.
5 March: The Princess Royal, President, Save the Children Fund, this morning gave the Keynote Address to the Young Presidents' Organisation London, the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London W1.
Mrs Malcolm Innes was in attendance.
Her Royal Highness this afternoon attended the Anglo-Finnish Round Table Conference, Ditchley Park, Oxford, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire (Sir Ashley Ponsonby Bt).
Mrs Andrew Feilden was in attendance.
