BUCKINGHAM PALACE

29 July: His Excellency Mr Karel Kuhnl was received in audience by The Queen and presented his Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the Czech Republic to the Court of St James's.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the Embassy:

Colonel Stanislav Thurnvald (Military and Air Attache), Mr Roman Janson (First Secretary), Mr Petr Hrdlicka (First Secretary), Mr Jan Vymetal (Second Secretary), Mr Jan Valek (Second Secretary), Lieutenant-Colonel Andor Sandor (Assistant Military and Air Attache), Mr Jiri Capek (Third Secretary) and Mrs Jana Stankova (Attache).

Mrs Kuhnlova was also received by Her Majesty.

Sir David Gillmore (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household in Waiting were in attendance.

The President of the Republic of Colombia and Senora de Gaviria visited The Queen when Her Majesty invested His Excellency with the Insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George.

Mr Gordon Franklin was received by Her Majesty upon his retirement as Serjeant-at-Arms and Personnel Officer.

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, took the Salute this afternoon at a performance of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court.

The Lady Susan Hussey, Major General Brian Pennicott, Major James Patrick and Wing Commander Christopher Moran RAF were in attendance.

By command of The Queen, Sir Ashley Ponsonby, Bt (Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire) was present at Royal Air Force Brize Norton this morning upon the Departure of The King and Queen of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and bade farewell to Their Majesties on behalf of Her Majesty.

29 July: The Princess Royal, Patron, XXXIInd International Congress of Physiology, this morning attended the Workshop for Physiologists from Developing Countries at Eden Court Theatre, Bishops Road, Inverness, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Inverness (Lieutenant-Commander Lachlan Mackintosh RN).

Mrs David Bowes Lyon was in attendance.

KENSINGTON PALACE

29 July: The Princess of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief, departed from Royal Air Force Northolt to visit the Light Dragoons today at Haig Barracks, Bergen-Hohne, Germany.

Miss Anne Beckwith-Smith and Captain Edward Musto RM were in attendance.

THATCHED HOUSE LODGE

29 July: Princess Alexandra, accompanied by the Hon Sir Angus Ogilvy, this evening took the Salute at a performance of the Royal Tournament, Earl's Court, London SW5.

Rear-Admiral Sir John Garnier was in attendance.

ROYAL ENGAGEMENTS

The Queen visits Hertfordshire. The Prince of Wales opens the new British Airways subsidiary company, British Airways Maintenance, Cardiff, at Cardiff-Wales Airport. The Duke of York takes the salute at the evening performance of the Royal Tournament at Earl's Court Exhibition Centre, London SW5. The Princess Royal, President, Royal Yachting Association, attends the RYA/Eric Twiname National Youth Matchracing Championships, Queen Mary Sailing Club, Ashford, Middlesex. Princess Margaret, President, the Girl Guides Association, visits the Cleveland County International Camp at Wynyard Park, Wolviston, Cleveland; and as Grand President, St John Ambulance Association and Brigade, opens the new Headquarters of the Order of St John of Cleveland, Middlesbrough.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Irish Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Scots Guards.
