13 January: The Duke of Edinburgh, International President, WWF - World Wide Fund for Nature, and The Prince of Wales today visited Shetland and were received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Shetland (Mr Magnus Shearer).
Their Royal Highnesses were briefed on and viewed the work being undertaken to combat the oil spillage from the Braer and held discussions on the effect on the island with leaders of the community and other organisations.
Mr Hugh Merrill was in attendance.

13 January: The Princess of Wales today visited Preston and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Lancashire (Mr Simon Towneley).
Her Royal Highness this morning visited St Catherine's Hospice, Lostock Hall.
The Princess of Wales afterwards visited Leyland DAF Limited, Leyland Assembly Plant, Leyland.
Her Royal Highness this afternoon opened the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit, Royal Preston Hospital, Sharoe Green Lane, Fulwood.
Mrs James Lonsdale and Captain Edward Musto RM were in attendance.
13 January: The Duke of Gloucester, Grand Prior, Order of St John, this afternoon conducted an Investiture of Lord Remnant as Bailiff Grand Cross, and subsequently Installed Lord Remnant as Bailiff of Egle at the Grand Priory Church, Clerkenwell, London EC1.

The Duke of Kent, Patron, the Institute of Export, opens the 'Europe Day' Conference at the Carnatic Hall, and later visits the new School of Health Science, within the Faculty of Medicine, Liverpool University; opens the Peter Moores' Wing of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society's Hall; visits Seymour Terrace office development, Liverpool; and later, as Fellow, attends the Michael Faraday Lecture at the Royal Society, London SW1. Prince Michael of Kent, President of the Kennel Club, attends Crufts at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.
