BUCKINGHAM PALACE

17 December: His Excellency Mr Rabindranath Permanand was received in audience by The Queen and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Commission as High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in London.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the High Commission:

Mrs Sheelagh de Osuna (Deputy High Commissioner), Mrs Vernetta Calvin-Smith (Counsellor), Mr Clive Pegus (First Secretary), Miss Merlyne Alexander (Attache) and Mrs Joycelyn Tifferson (Attache).

Mrs Permanand was also received by Her Majesty.

Sir David Gillmore (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household in Waiting were in attendance.

The Lord Jenkins of Hillhead was received by The Queen when Her Majesty invested him with the Insignia of a Member of the Order of Merit.

Sir Edward Ford (Secretary and Registrar of the Order of Merit) was in attendance.

Mr Justice Mance was received by The Queen upon his appointment as a Justice of the High Court when Her Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Bachelor.

17 December: The Prince of Wales, Colonel, Welsh Guards, this morning received Brigadier John Rickett.

KENSINGTON PALACE

17 December: The Princess of Wales this morning received Captain Tom Blackburn RN upon relinquishing the appointment of Commanding Officer HMS Cornwall and Captain Charles Freeman RN upon assuming the appointment.

YORK HOUSE

17 December: The Duke of Kent, Patron, British Menswear Guild, this afternoon visited the Birmingham Badge and Button Company, Clement Street, Birmingham, and was met on arrival by Lord Guernsey (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands).

His Royal Highness, Vice-Chairman, the British Overseas Trade Board, later visited Land Rover, Lode Lane, Solihull, Birmingham, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for the West Midlands (Mr Robert Taylor).

The Duke of Kent this evening attended a concert of the Black Voices Choir at the Town Hall, Birmingham.

Captain Alexander Tetley was in attendance.

TODAY: The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace opens between 10am and 5pm. TOMORROW: The Queen's Gallery opens between 2pm and 5pm.

Changing of the Guard

TODAY: The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am. TOMORROW: The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 10am; 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Scots Guards.

Windsor Castle

TODAY and TOMORROW: The Precincts at Windsor Castle open between 10am and 4pm, and the State Apartments between 10.30am and 3pm.
