25 April: Mrs Joan Jackson was received by The Queen when Her Majesty invested her with the Insignia of a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE

26 April: The Queen, Visitor, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, today visited Wellington College, Crowthorne, and was received by The Duke of Kent (President), The Duchess of Kent and Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr John Henderson).

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness attended a Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving in the College Chapel.

The Queen officially opened the new Hopetoun Boarding House, unveiled a commemorative plaque and, with The Duke of Edinburgh, toured the new building escorted by the Master (Mr Jonty Driver).

Her Majesty, with His Royal Highness, afterwards honoured the College with her presence at Luncheon.

The Queen later presented the Queen's Medal to Mr Christopher Macfarlane (Head of College), who was introduced into Her Majesty's presence by the Master.

Mrs John Dugdale, the Right Hon Sir Robert Fellowes and Lieutenant- Colonel Blair Stewart-Wilson were in attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Trustee, this afternoon attended a Council Meeting at St George's House, Windsor.

His Royal Highness, Patron and Trustee, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, this evening gave a Dinner for Founder Members of the Charter for Business at Buckingham Palace.

The Hon Mary Morrison has succeeded Mrs John Dugdale as Lady-in- Waiting to The Queen.

26 April: The Duke of York this evening attended the Seatrade Annual Awards for Achievement Dinner and presented the prizes, Guildhall, London EC2.

Captain Neil Blair RN was in attendance.

26 April: The Princess Royal today visited Devon and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant (Lieutenant-Colonel the Earl of Morley).

The Princess Royal, President, Save the Children Fund, later visited the Save the Children Fund Shop, 64 Fore Street, Totnes.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, afterwards opened Teignbridge and District Citizens Advice Bureau, 5 Bank Street, Newton Abbot.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, Sense, the National Deaf-Blind and Rubella Association, this afternoon visited the Royal West of England School for the Deaf, Topsham Road, Exeter.

The Princess Royal afterwards opened the newly refurbished and extended Exeter Nuffield National Hospital.

Lady Carew Pole was in attendance.

YORK HOUSE

26 April: The Duke of Kent, President, accompanied by The Duchess of Kent this morning visited Wellington College, Berkshire, for the opening of the Hopetoun Boarding House by The Queen.

ROYAL ENGAGEMENTS

The President of the Republic of Portugal and Senhora Soares pay a State Visit. The Princess of Wales, President, Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, attends the international conference 'Eating Disorders '93' at Kensington New Town Hall, London W8. The Princess Royal, President, Save the Children Fund, launches Save the Children Fund Week 1993, Trade Union Congress Headquarters, London WC1.
