8 June: His Excellency Mr Ryszard Stemplowski was received in audience by The Queen and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the Republic of Poland to the Court of St James's.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the Embassy:

Commander Ryszard Sziegier (Military, Naval and Air Attache), Mr Romuald Szuniewicz (Minister and Commercial Counsellor), Mr Tadeusz Szumowski (Counsellor), Mr Jerzy Vonau (Counsellor), Mr Witold Sobkow (Counsellor), Mr Cezariusz Kwaterski (Counsellor), Mrs Hanna Mausch (Counsellor) and Mr Tomasz Kozlawski (Second

Secretary).

Sir David Gillmore (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household-in-Waiting were in

attendance.

Mr Thomas Malcolmson (Her Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Panama) and Mrs Malcolmson were received by Her Majesty.

Mr Anthony Harris was received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon his appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates.

Mrs Harris was also received by Her Majesty.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel-in- Chief, this afternoon attended a Luncheon with The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment followed by a Parade and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr John Henderson).

His Royal Highness subsequently presented colours to The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment and received, on the Regiment's behalf, the United States Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation and afterwards attended a Reception in the Home Park, Windsor.

Major Charles Richards was in

attendance.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Chancellor, this evening attended the University of Cambridge Boat Club May Races and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire (Mr James Crowden).

Brigadier Miles Hunt-Davis was in

attendance.

By command of The Queen, Mr James Crowden (Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Cambridgeshire) was present at Cambridge Airport this afternoon upon the Arrival of The President of the Federal Republic of Germany and Baroness von Weizsacker and welcomed His Excellency and Baroness von Weizsacker on behalf of Her Majesty.

By command of The Queen, Sir Ashley Ponsonby Bt (Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Oxfordshire) was present at Royal Air Force Brize Norton this afternoon upon the Departure of The President of the United States of America and Mrs Clinton and bade farewell to The President and Mrs Clinton on behalf of Her Majesty.

8 June: The Princess Royal, President, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, accompanied by Commander Timothy Laurence RN, this evening attended the Grosvenor House Art Antiques Fair Charity Gala Preview, Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London W1.

CLARENCE HOUSE

8 June: Lieutenant-Colonel James Short today had the honour of being received by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Colonel-in-Chief, 9th/12 Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's), upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer.

Lieutenant-Colonel Martin Rutledge also had the honour of being received by Her Majesty upon assuming his appointment as Commanding Officer of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's).

ST JAMES'S PALACE

8 June: The Prince of Wales this morning received Dr Daisaku Ikeda.

His Royal Highness, President, Business in the Community, later visited Trax Workshop, Isis Business Park, Oxford, and was received by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Heywood-Lonsdale (Vice Lord- Lieutenant of Oxfordshire).

The Prince of Wales afterwards visited the Blackbird Leys Estate, Oxford.

Mr Matthew Butler was in attendance.

His Royal Highness, Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Regiment of Wales, this afternoon presented The Prince of Wales's Trophy to the 1st Battalion (2 Platoon, A Company).

Major Patrick Tabor was in

attendance.

KENSINGTON PALACE

8 June: The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, President, The Friends of the Elderly and Gentlefolk's Help, this afternoon visited Nynehead Court, the Society's home in Wellington.

Her Royal Highness was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Somerset (Colonel Sir Walter Luttrell).

The Countess Alexander of Tunis was in attendance.

8 June: The Duke of Gloucester, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, was present at a Luncheon with the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment, followed by a Parade.

His Royal Highness and subsequently attended the presentation of Colours to the Regiment and then received, on the Regiment's behalf, the United States Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation following which The Duke of Gloucester attended a Reception in the Home Park, Windsor.

His Royal Highness was received on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire (Mr John Henderson).

Major Nicholas Barne was in

attendance.

The Duchess of Gloucester today visited Milton Keynes and was received on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire, Commander the Lord Cottesloe.

Her Royal Highness, Patron, National Asthma Campaign, opened the Low Allergen House at the Futureworld Exhibition, Kent's Hill. Later The Duchess of Gloucester visited Open University, Walton Hall to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Founding of the University.

Mrs Howard Page was in attendance.

YORK HOUSE

8 June: The Duke of Kent, President, the Automobile Association, this morning attended the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme General Assembly, Dublin Castle, Dublin.

His Royal Highness this afternoon laid the Foundation Stone for the new British Embassy Building, Simonscourt Road, Dublin and as Vice-Chairman, the British Overseas Trade Board, attended a briefing on Anglo-Irish Trade at the Irish Business and Employers' Federation, Lower Baggott Street, Dublin, the Republic of Ireland.

Mr Nicolas Adamson was in

attendance.

THATCHED HOUSE LODGE

8 June: Princess Alexandra, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief of the Light Infantry, this afternoon received Major-General MD Regan, Colonel of the Regiment, Lieutenant-Colonel TG French upon relinquishing command of the 6th Battalion and Lieutenant-Colonel AA Amber on assuming this command.

Her Royal Highness also received Lieutenant-Colonel C. Burt upon relinquishing command of the 8th Battalion and Lieutenant-Colonel RMJ Rollo- Walker on assuming this command.
