BUCKINGHAM PALACE

13 July: Mr Robert Alston was received in audience by The Queen upon his appointment as British High Commissioner to New Zealand.

Mrs Alston was received by Her Majesty.

His Excellency Mr KKS Dadzie was received in audience by The Queen and presented the Letters of Recall of his predecessor and his own Letters of Commission as High Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana in London.

His Excellency was accompanied by the following members of the High Commission:

Mr Johnson Osei-Hwedieh (Deputy High Commissioner), Mr Noble Victor Dzisam (Minister Counsellor), Mr James Kwamena Anaman (Minister Counsellor), Mr Samuel Kojo Okine (Minister Counsellor), Brigadier Humphrey Wise Kwasi Agbevey (Defence Adviser), Mr Kofi Kessi Manfo (Minister Counsellor), Mr Kwabena Asare (Counsellor) and Mr Albert Francis Yankey (First Secretary).

Sir David Gillmore (Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) was present and the Household in Waiting were in attendance.

The Governor of South Australia was received by Her Majesty.

Sir Leonard Appleyard was received in audience by The Queen and kissed hands upon his appointment as Her Majesty's Ambassador Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China when The Queen conferred upon him the honour of Knighthood and invested him with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George.

The Lady Margaret Colville was received by The Queen when Her Majesty invested her with the Insignia of a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Queen this afternoon opened the East Wing of the Royal Courts of Justice, the Strand, London WC2, and was received by the Lord Chancellor (the Lord Mackay of Clashfern).

Her Majesty toured the Courts and viewed a display on the demolition and construction of the East Wing before unveiling a commemorative plaque.

The Lady Susan Hussey, Mr Robin Janvrin and Captain Peter Hopkins were in attendance.

The Right Hon John Major MP (Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury) had an audience of The Queen this evening.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Patron, this evening gave a Dinner for the Voluntary Services Overseas at Buckingham Palace.

The Duke of York, Patron, this morning visited Weston Spirit, Royal Insurance Building, Liverpool, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord- Lieutenant for Merseyside (Mr Alan Waterworth).

His Royal Highness afterwards opened the new Maritime Centre, Mersey Docks and Harbour Company, Liverpool.

The Duke of York, Patron, Round Square, this afternoon visited St Anne's School, Windermere, and was received by Mr James Cropper (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria).

His Royal Highness, Patron, this evening attended the Fire Service Sports and Athletics Association Silver Jubilee Dinnner at Fulwood and was received by Captain Michael Fitzherbert-Brockholes (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire).

Captain Neil Blair RN and Captain Rupert Maitland-Titterton were in attendance.

The Princess Royal, Honorary Colonel, University of London Officers Training Corps, this morning visited the Annual Camp, Tregantle Fort, Antony, Torpoint, Cornwall.

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children Fund, this evening attended a Seventy-Fifth Birthday Private Appeal Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

ST JAMES'S PALACE

13 July: The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince's Trust, this morning chaired the trust's management board meeting at St James's Palace.

His Royal Highness, President, Business in the Community, later received reports from those who have been on 'Seeing is Believing' visits and attended a Luncheon at St James's Palace.

Mr Matthew Butler was in attendance.

KENSINGTON PALACE

13 July: The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon was present this afternoon at a party held in the Courtyard of the Sidney Estate, Chalton Street, London NW1, to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the St Pancras Housing Association, of which Her Royal Highness is Patron.

Lady Aird was in attendance.

13 July: The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester today visited Gloucestershire and were received on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Gloucestershire (Mr Henry Elwes).

The Duke of Gloucestershire opened Headquarters Personnel and Training Command at Royal Air Force Innsworth.

The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, Cheltenham International Festival of Music, attended a Concert at the PittvillePump Room, Cheltenham, to mark the Festival's 50th Anniversary.

Later The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were present at a Luncheon at Royal Air Force Innsworth.

Mrs Euan McCorquodale and Major Nicholas Barne were in attendance.

YORK HOUSE

13 July: The Duke of Kent, Patron, Endeavour Training Limited, this morning visited the Children's Camp, Whitwell Camp Site, Rutland Water, Leicestershire, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Leicestershire (Mr Timothy Brooks).

His Royal Highness, Vice-Chairman, the British Overseas Trade Board, this afternoon visited Anglian Water plc, Management Training Centre, Whitwell Manor, Whitwell, Leicestershire.

The Duke of Kent, Grand Master, the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, this evening attended a reception, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Whitehall, London SW1.

His Royal Highness, Patron, the British Menswear Guild, later attended Daks-Simpson Limited's Centenary Dinner, Claridge's, Brook Street, London W1.

Mr Nicolas Adamson was in attendance.

The Duchess of Kent this morning received an Honorary Doctorate of Law, the University of Bristol, Senate House, Bristol, Avon, and was met on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Avon (Sir John Wills Bt).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon presented The Queen's Award for Technological Achievement to British Aerospace, New Filton House, Filton, and as Patron, the Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood Trust, later opened the Oncology Day Bed Unit, Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children, St Michael's Hill, Bristol.

The Duchess of Kent this evening attended a dinner for Honorary Graduands of the University of Bristol, Merchants' Hall, Cliffton, Bristol, Avon.

Miss Helen Tughan was in attendance.

13 July: Princess Alexandra today visited the Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate, North Yorkshire and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for North Yorkshire (Sir Marcus Worsley Bt).

Buckingham Palace

The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace opens between 10am and 5pm, and last admission is at 4.30pm. The Royal Mews opens between 12pm and 4pm, and last admission is at 3.30pm.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 7 Company Coldstream Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Scots Guards.

Windsor Castle

The Precincts and State Apartments at Windsor Castle open between 10am and 6pm. Bands playing in the Royal Parks

St James's Park, Royal Yeomanry, 12.30pm-2pm, 5.30pm-7pm; Regent's Park (Queen Mary's Rose Garden), Cornetts and Sackbuts of the King's Musick, 12.30pm-2pm.
