KENSINGTON PALACE

10 January: The Princess of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires) this morning received Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Reeve-Tucker upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer 1st Battalion.

Her Royal Highness, Colonel-in- Chief, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires) afterwards received Lieutenant-Colonel Piers Storie-Pugh upon relinquishing his appointment as Commanding Officer 6th / 7th Battalion and Lieutenant-Colonel Trevor Finklaire upon assuming the appointment.

10 January: Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, Deputy Colonel-in-Chief, The King's Royal Hussars, today received Major-General John Friedberger, Colonel of the Regiment.

Royal Ascot

The List for applications for the Royal Enclosure at Ascot opened on 1 January.

All those wishing to apply for the first time should make an application before the end of March. On receipt of these applications, sponsorship forms will be sent.

Only personal letters of application will be accepted and should include full names of those members of the family who wish to attend.

Existing members should apply as usual before the end of April.

Overseas visitors should apply direct to their embassies in London.

In the Royal Enclosure ladies will wear formal day dress with hats which must cover the crown of the head. Gentlemen will wear morning dress with top hats or service dress.

Applications should be addressed to Her Majesty's Representative, The Ascot Office, St James's Palace, London SW1A 1BP.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am.

Windsor Castle

The Precincts at Windsor Castle open between 10am and 4pm, and the State Apartments between 10.30am and 3pm.
