From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Cindy Crawford has hastily stepped in to clarify reports she is retiring from modelling after turning 50.
As one of the original supermodels, the 49-year-old sent the fashion world into a frenzy after telling United Airlines's Rhapsody magazine she would probably have her photo taken over the next 10 years, but "not as a model anymore".
“And that's okay," she added. "I've done it. I've worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can't keep reinventing myself. I shouldn't have to keep proving myself. I don't want to.”
Her comments prompted speculation that Crawford was announcing her retirement from modelling, something she was keen to clarify on Monday.
Instead, she said she would be shifting her focus to other projects outside of modelling, but insisted this was not the official confirmation her modelling career is drawing to a close.
“Every year, I tell my kids I'm retiring," she wrote on Instagram. "It's a running joke in our family. And yet every year, opportunities pop up that really excite me. While it's true that I'm eager to shift my focus a bit to concentrate on my businesses, friends and family — I'm not making any final statements (not all headlines tell the whole story!).
“I have loved being part of the fashion industry for the past 30 years — and if that time has taught me anything, it's this: never say never. Thanks for all the support, I'm so excited for what 2016 holds!”
