From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sir Roger Moore’s stepdaughter Christina Knudsen has died from cancer, the actor has confirmed in a statement.

Sir Roger, 88, announced Ms Knudsen's passing on Twitter, writing: “Our beautiful daughter Christina (aka Flossie) lost her battle with cancer on 25 July at 10am. We are heartbroken.

“We were all with her, surrounding her with love, at the end.”

Ms Knudsen, the daughter of Sir Roger’s fourth wife Kiki Tholstrup, lived in London for 17 years where she worked in property development and interior design.

She described her close relationship with Sir Roger in an interview with The Evening Standard in 2014. Ms Knudsen credited Sir Roger for helping her develop a positive outlook on life after a series of sad events, including the death of her father Hans Christian Knudsen and her mother’s ex-husband Ole Tholstrup 20 years later.

“I think I didn’t know myself that well when I got married and felt pressurised by society," she said. "I wasn’t yet able to listen to who I was and what I really wanted. I was in difficult relationships but all that changed when my mother met Roger.”

She co-founded Ochun, a private members’ club in London for singles, in 2014.
