From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Chrissy Teigen has explained why she breastfed her daughter Luna in Fergie’s new "M.I.L.F.$" music video.

Former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie premiered her new video over the weekend. The single, which proudly proclaims she's “got that ‘milf’ money”, features Fergie and a number of other high-profile mothers including Kim Kardashian-West, Alessandra Ambrosio, Gemma Ward and Ciara.

Moments from the video include Fergie pouring milk over herself, Kardashian-West taking a selfie, Ambrosio and her daughter drinking milk and Teigen breastfeeding her and husband John Legends’ three-month-old baby Luna.

Teigen explained the inclusion of Luna in the video was last-minute and shared her delight in being able to capture the "beautiful" moment for it.

“It was, [Luna’s] here and it’s ‘MILF Money’ – I would love to capture this moment with her,” the model told People. “I think it’s beautiful.”

The 30-year-old said Luna starred in the video at four weeks old and the scene was impromptu as “it was her natural lunch time anyway”.

Since becoming a new mother, Teigen has shared a number of photos with her vast social media following depicting life as a breastfeeding mother. These have included mid-breastfeed photos or ones that convey an effect of breastfeeding which is much less glamorous than her depiction in the music video. For example, the below Instagram post:

Teigen joins a number of other high-profile women who have breastfed in the public eye and sought to break down any remaining, outdated taboos. Supermodels Natalia Vodianova, Doutzen Kroes, Gisele Bundchen and Miranda Kerr have all shared photos of themselves breastfeeding on Instagram while last year the model Nicole Trufino breastfed her five-month-old son on the cover of ELLE Australia.
