From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Discussing his role in the latest Jurassic film, the 35-year-old actor spoke about hunting and his “respect” for the animals he kills.
“I have a great deal of respect for the animals that I kill,” he says, “and I feel remorse and all of the emotions that come with it.”
Pratt has had a glut of excellent publicity recently, charming (if that’s the word) the British public with his spot on impersonation of cast members from The Only Way Is Essex on the Graeme Norton Show.
But his latest comments appear to not gone down quite so well with some social media users.
The actor has spoken about hunting before. In an interview with fashion magazine Elle in May he mentioned that he had around 40 guns in his collection and listed off the various animals he killed (usually to eat), including elk, caribou, deer and moose.
"Chris is the only guy in Hollywood who will unabashedly show you his hunting pictures," commented Parks and Recreation co-star Rob Lowe.
Pratt explained: “The thing inside me that drives me to go out and hunt is very animal. But the remorse, emotion and respect I feel, and the closeness to God that I feel when I’m out there, is my humanity.
“It’s an opportunity for me to explore what parts of me are animal and what parts of me are human,” he said in an interview with the Guardian.
Still, at least he's already covered his back. On 22 May he pre-emptively apologised on his Facebook for "whatever it is I end up accidentally saying" during the Jurassic World press tour.
