Chris Brown was taken into custody by Los Angeles Police on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The arrest was the culmination of a daylong standoff on Tuesday that began when a woman at the 27-year-old singer’s house called 911.

“He is being transported to robbery homicide where he will be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon,” LAPD Lt Chris Ramirez told reporters outside Brown’s $4m Tarzana home.

The Los Angeles Times reported that police had responded to the emergency call made by a woman, who accused Brown of pointing a gun at her early Tuesday morning. The Times has since identified the woman, but The Independent has chosen not to publish her name.

Brown maintained his innocence in a video posted to Instagram. He claimed he was asleep “half the damn night” and woke up when police helicopters surrounded the estate.

“I’m way too tired to be dealing with the bulls***,” he said.

Tuesday afternoon, police obtained a warrant to search Brown’s property for the weapon he allegedly used to point at the woman.

Brown’s accuser told the Times that singer became enraged when she apparently admired a diamond necklace of his shown to her by somebody in the house.

“I don’t know if it was Chris’ friend or how he was related, but that’s when he told me to back away from the diamond necklace and started cussing me out and calling me names,” she said. “That’s when Chris pulled his gun and told me to ‘Get out’. He said, ‘I’m sick of you girls, get the F out!’”

Brown previously spent six years on probation after the assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Police have reportedly visited Brown’s property five times in 2016 for disturbances, including multiple complaints of he and his friends riding all-terrain vehicles loudly through the neighbourhood.
