Ford is (probably) grimacing as the Star Wars actress continues to thrill fans of the franchise by revealing more details of the affair which apparently blossomed between a 33-year-old Ford and Fisher, then aged 19, when the pair filmed Star Wars: A New Hope in London in 1976. Ford was married at the time and Fisher claims their relationship was short-lived, lasting only a few months.
Ford has not commented on her claims and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Independent.
Speaking ahead of the publication of her memoir The Princess Diarist, Fisher, 60, told People their alleged affair was “intense” and began after a birthday party for the director George Lucas.
In a separate interview, she admitted her feelings for Ford had not completely disappeared more than four decades after the event. “Yes, I love him,” she told The Guardian. “I’ll always feel something for him.”
The interviews continue to roll in thick and fast and on Monday, Fisher described her “surprise” at the reaction to details of their brief dalliance, telling the Today show's Savannah Guthrie she forgot she had even written the journals and only discovered them while shooting the latest instalment of Star Wars.
“I was 19. I was not a sort of cavalier person,” she said. “I was sad. I was so insecure, and it’s very raw. Obviously, I didn’t expect anyone - including myself - to read it.”
After finding the diaries, her next step was to call Ford who, by her account, was not thrilled at Fisher's decision to go public.
“He’s incredibly private. I feel a little bit bad about doing that to him,” she explained. “But yes, I told him I had found the journals and that I was going to publish them. He sort of went, ‘Lawyer.’
“When you’re on location—this is something I discovered- everything is permitted. I didn’t know that, I haven’t been on location since.”
